“When a member of my party pesters me for something, I will grant that member’s request. But, if a member of another party pesters me, my evilness will be clearly seen. I can also do many things with my left hand and right hand. Never think, and none of you can even imagine, the things I would do or would not do."

MDP sends warning signals to the Maldivian High Court

Addressing an MDP rally at the Artificial Beach on Tuesday night, MDP Parliamentary Group leader and Party voice Reeko Moosa Maniku called on the High Court to expedite a ruling on the case involving the Thimarafushi Constituency vote. Moosa repeatedly claimed that the TC seat belonged to the MDP, and warned of civil unrest if a court ruling went against the MDP candidate.

MDP pg group leader Moosa’s warning of civil unrest follows an arson assault on the family home of one of the key witnesses who gave testimony against MDP activities during the voting in Thimarafushi .

The case against the Elections Commission was lodged with the High Court by DRP candidate Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, requesting an overturn of the election results of both ballot boxes and an order for a re-vote. The appeal also requested that a stay order be issued to the EC to withhold announcement of preliminary results of these boxes until the Supreme Court took a decision on the matter. Ghassan Maumoon’s appeal stated that, voting on Thimarafushi island took place under intimidation, threat and violence by supporters of MDP candidate Musthafa. Also unpopular for his management of the infamous local mafia addaa Mercufy CafĂ©, Musthafa is also a financier of MDP activities and close friend and ally of President Mohamed Nasheed.

Local media reports that the MDP candidate Musthafa’s supporters hijacked the ballot boxes twice during the voting process by rushing the voting area and forcing elections officials and Ghassan’s observers out of the area. After a lengthy delay during which the ballot box was in the hands of Musthafa’s supporters, ballot counting proceeded under police supervision. Ghassan’s observers were also prevented from attending the ballot counting. In addition, when the ballot box was sealed after counting, some ballots had been left outside the box. Other reports also validate those elections officials responsible for the election administration in the constituency refused to accept the Thimarafushi ballot box because the seal was broken when it reached them.

At the Court Hearing on Sunday, presiding Judge Ali Hameed specifically questioned the Elections Commission on irregularities in signatures on the elections results sheet, irregularities in the handover process of the ballot box to Elections Commission officials and on the issue of 115 ballot papers that were missing from the box.

Upon close questioning, Deputy Elections Commissioner Hussain Siraj admitted that the 155 ballot papers missing from the ballot box had disappeared before the ballot box had reached the Commission. Hussain Siraj is one of the lead lawyers of President Mohamed Nasheed’s Maldivian Democratic Party. The Elections Commissions also admitted violation of regulations on all three issues at the court hearing last Sunday.

This time Moosa has tripped and fallen flat on his face. This is nothing short of an acknowledgment of their criminal activities all over the Country during the voting. It's now very evident that MDP leadership was behind the arson attack on Usha's house also. A transparent & peaceful election. bah!

another article with valid points. judiciary is a separate entity. no use hassling them. mdp should realise that. ghassan raise your hopes. mdp mustahfa will never sit on the thimara seat at majlis. husen siraj, go learn ethics and integrity before you open your mouth next time. raaje news, keep up the good work.

Excellent report RN team! Keep up the great work. At least you guys aren't intimidated by the yellow fever. More of the same hard-hitting articles, please.

Actually the show was organized to boast about their "success" in getting majlis approval for Shihab, Razee & Soodh. Was a very poor show. I heard comments from the back-bench audience. One guy said (translated), "at the Majlis these people were almost begging for support. They come here and boast that they hold majority...". My opinion on the issue is very simple. Had DRP wanted to do it, they could have thrown the three candidates out of the window. Let's see the majority MDP has in the parliament when and if Nasheed dares to nominate Amin Faisal for the cabinet.

Doesn't MDP know anything but VIOLENCE? This is sickening!

Nasheed must be the most worried person on eath these days. He was there at the rally. It is his habit to keep revolving in the chair like an ambulance beacon. But he doesn't do it at Rallys anymore. I guess he is scared to acknowledge to even himself that the attendence at these rallies dont exceed 500 anymore. Poor Bugger!

All Reeko Moosa does is talk about violence and the past years. How the hell is he going to do his job like this? I wonder how he got elected and who voted this bugger. He belongs with mariyam nisha and shiraanee acting hindi copy songs, not in the parliament. Everytime something doesnt go the way he wants it to he threatens with violence and talking filth. Hulhu-Henveiru Dhaairaa or whatever dhaairaa member he is, my sympathies to those people - you will not get anything from him nor he will do anything for your right.

Thimarafushi Musthafa, all I can say about him is HAHAHAHAHA ... He is a well known thug so what more is there to say about him.

Looks like BM Anni's trying to get a dhuniyege neiy fenvaruge kuvveringe lineup. Intimidation is always their fallback plan. When all else fails, try intimidation just as Jude Laing advised...

Hey did anyone hear Chee food Mustapa's DhiFM interview last night when he attacked the High Court judges?

  15. Poolog said...

Cheap Food Musthafa is famous for attacking court judges. All judges in this Country are quite aware of Chip-Food Musthafa-tactics.

  16. Anonymous said...

See Food Monsterfa will attack anyone who gets in his way, just like his pal Annie. Look how he burned down his niece's house just because she told the truth.

Mustafa has nothing to worry about. Siraj is more than happy to commit perjury so long as MDP wins. He knows he's safe. Police will not investigate him, nor will the Anti Corruption people. As for the Witch Hunt Commission, what a laugh! It's only targeted at political enemies of Anni. See how the new Parliament has been reduced to cowering lumps of jelly once Reeko Moosa threatened them??

  18. Anonymous said...

Wake up people. The issue here is not Musthafa, but Elections Commission and the police. The Commission will again turn a blind eye to wrongdoings by MDP in any fresh vote. And the police still allow Musthafa's violence to go on. Thimarafushi people even now are living under threat. Musthafa's gangs rule that island. Even if Ghassan wins his court case, there is no way a fresh vote in Thimarafushi will be free and fair. Ghassan should try and get a court order against Musthafa going to Thimarafushi.

Anonymous@10.49. If Prosecutor Gen Muiz would stop letting his fellow MDP stooges go free, then Reek-O Moosa would be in jail now. The guy has violated every law in the country, and violated every right of other individuals in the Qaanoon Asaasee. But alas, Muiz is Annie's stooge too, so we can just look and rave, but nothing will be done.

Anonymous @ 10.12 is absolutely right. The real issue is the sheer magnitude of wrongdoing by the Elections Commission. Who's going to have the courage to investigate Mohamed Ibrahim, Siraj and Fuad?

  24. Anonymous said...

    Dear RN,
I hope you'll call for a Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate the Elections Commission. How much damage have they done to this country? If Anni really has nothing to hide, let him establish this new Commission, or are all those rumours true? Was it Saabe wot won it for you, mate?
